Emergence: Young Artists
An international rendezvous of emerging creation, the realizations of IRCAM’s 2010 Cursus 2 program invite you to dive into the universe of string instruments and their electronic avatars.
Andrea Agostini's string quartet reflects its synthetic image, an infinite spiral of mutual transcriptions. Cognitive Consonance by Christopher Trapani confronts the Western ensemble with the Turkish kanun; here the plucked strings of Julien Weiss' (from the group Al kindî) zither with the rock group's Telecaster guitar. Virtual kanuns, microtonal harmonies, and the noisy sounds of the electric guitar all contain computer-music. Patricia Alessandrini has literally hung her instruments. Strings and prototypes made to carry out an extreme time stretch.
Following the example the productions by Giacinto Scelsi during the last century, this concert explores in a thousand ways the "exact sound" and the well temperament, closing with the psychedelic guitar of Tristan Murail's startling Vampyr!. An evening at the CENTQUATRE that continues on June 13 at the Cité de la musique with miniatures for string trios, prepared piano, and percussions by Marco Momi.
